  19. When issuing the following command
  20.  
  21.    ntbackup backup o:\readme.txt
  22.  
  23. Windows NT Backup will report that it "Backed up 0 files in 2
  24. directories." The file is backed up; however, it is backed up as a
  25. directory instead of a file.
  26.  
  27. The following backup status report results from the above-mentioned
  28. example command:
  29.  
  30.    Backup Status
  31.  
  32.    Tape Name: "Tape created on 8/31/93"
  33.    Backup of "O: \\products2\release"
  34.    Backup set #1 on tape #1
  35.    Backup description: ""
  36.    Backup started on 8/31/93 at 9:29:57 AM.
  37.    Directory \
  38.    Directory \README.TXT
  39.    Backup completed on 8/31/93 at 9:29:58 AM.
  40.    Backed up 0 files in 2 directories.
  41.    Processed 903 bytes in  1 second.

  43. In the backup status report, "Directory \README.TXT" indicates that
  44. Windows NT Backup considers README.TXT to be a directory, which is not
  45. the case.

  47. CAUSE
  48. =====
  49.  
  50. Windows NT Backup is intended as a backup program for entire
  51. directories instead of individual files, and as such, treats an
  52. individual file listed on the command line as a directory to be backed
  53. up.
  54.  
  55. RESOLUTION
  56. ==========
  57.  
  58. When you are using Windows NT Backup from the command line, specify
  59. entire directories to be backed up.
  60.  
  61. STATUS

  64. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1
  65. and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this
  66. problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge
  67. Base as it becomes available.
